No More Homeless Pets in Utah went to the southern states to retrieve homeless dogs and cats. They didn't come back with as many as we had planned on. Only 28 dogs were able to come back on this trip. We were hoping to house several of these pets, but fortunately for them, most got adopted at the super adoption! NMHP is planning on making additional trips and I'm hopeful we'll be able to take on some of these pets. I've been told that the rescuers down there are organized and the true hurricane pets need to stay in that area for at least 30 days so that their owners have adequate time to claim them. I hope you will continue with your support in the weeks to come as these dogs filter in.
Since we did fairly well at the super adoption in adopting our own pets, we took on a couple of dogs from a high kill shelter and brought them home with us. They didn't get adopted at the super adoption after enduring three long days, and would have been euthanized when they returned to the shelter in Ogden. Bailey and Doobie were left at the Ogden City pound by their owners when they no longer wanted two larger dogs. Both dogs are slightly overweight and middle aged. I've met them personally and both are very loveable. They came to the pound together, but they don't have to be adopted together--although I'm sure they would really like that. It's apparent that they've been outdoor dogs. When I gave Bailey, the lab, a pat, dust poofed in the air. Doobie is covered in mats. Lisa worked on him for quite a while, but he still has a way to go. |
